Octane is a straight-chain alkane which includes 8 carbon atoms. Octane is a colorless liquid with the odor of gasoline. It is an organic chemical compound and is a chief element of gasoline (petrol). It is a volatile and highly flammable colorless liquid. Octane's molecular formula is C8H18.
